In each section, we outline a mode of a human-centered design process, and then describe dozens of specific methods to do design work. Why do engineering interventions often fail? How can we improve the engineering design process to address points of failure? What does human-centered design (HCD) look like in action? How can you apply the HCD process to global health challenges that require more than technology? HCD is a new approach to the traditional engineering design process, involving three phases: hear, IDEO.org launched as a 501(c)(3) from the global design and innovation firm IDEO in 2011, and like IDEO, we practice human-centered design. In addition to actually making things to improve the lives of people living in poverty, we're working to get the social sector at large to take a human-centered approach to problem solving too.
